How to melt plastic bottles

I’m telling you, they can melt in many ways. One of them is taking a metal container and adding the bottle cut into small pieces. Fill the whole metal container and put it in the oven. If you can get a small stove and take it out of the house, this will prevent the melted plastic from sticking to another surface or the smell of this material melting at home.

You can put the stove at about 120 degrees. Let everything melt well, inside the metal container. You will see that some gases can escape, when burning more plastic these will be more harmful. Leave the container baking for about 4 minutes and then sees increasing the heat little by little. You can do it at 4ºC intervals until you see it’s completely melted.

After a while and well melted, take out the metal container without burning yourself. Then he prepares a mold, to give shape to that plastic. The mold can be any shape you want. After pours the liquid material into theyou can help yourself out of a wooden stick. Finally, let it cool down completely. Then unmould and you’ll see the figures made.

Finally if you’ve made plastic flowers and you just want to give a little shape to its petals, just use a candle or a lighter and melt a little edges. Do not put the heat source too close, but at a prudent distance so that it does not burn.

Plastic Moulding Ideas

Here are some ideas for using melted plastic and turning it into objects for another use.

Mould with reused materials

The first thing we have to do is prepare the original piece that we will use to create the mold. To do this, first clean the article well. Once cleaned, apply a release agent over the original part to make sure the original part will come off.

The next step would be to coat the article with a layer of bubble remover to prevent the formation of bubbles. We will place the original piece inside a heat-resistant container.

The last step, it would be pour the melted material onto the original piece. Do this carefully and let the product cool down to harden. When this happens, all that’s left is to unmould.

Silicone Mould

The first thing will be create a catalyst solution with soap and water. With this mixture, what we’re getting is to create a product that makes the silicone harden faster. To do this, mix 2 liters of water with 120 milliliters of dishwasher.

Once we have the above mixture, we must take a bottle of silicone and pour all its contents into the previous catalyst solution. When all the silicone is in the mixture, with the help of our hands we will mold it to create a less malleable ball.

To create the mold, we will take the silicone mass and stretch it as if it were a pizza base. We’ll put the original piece in it by pressing it. Use a product that helps you remove the original part without damaging our mold.

Finally, allow the mould to harden completely. To prevent the silicone from sticking we recommend adding a little soapy water in a container and put the mold in it.

Make the mold casting

The first thing to do is to prepare the work area. We must look for a place in the house that has good light and ventilation. Cover the area with towels or paper so as not to stain more than necessary.

The next thing we have to do is prepare the mold. It is important to treat it properly in order to be successful.. For example, if the mold is purchased, it should be washed with hot water to remove any residue that may affect us.

We’ll take plastic resin and mix it well. This resin consists of two products. Both should be mixed in equal amounts and everything mixed well until a uniform product is obtained.

The resin will be poured into the mould by spraying the upper part with a release agent to prevent the bubbles from rising upwards.

Finally, carefully remove the item from the mold when the resin has settled. If the mold is silicone, apply pressure on the back with our fingers to remove the item.

How about this idea to recycle plastic bottles? Have you ever melted plastic to decorate?
