Although there are infinite variations on the market, it is possible to make it at home very easily thanks to many “recipes” that can be developed together with the little ones and with simple ingredients. Here’s how to do it.
The slime it’s a slimy substance and sticky that takes on a different shape each time it is handled or pulled. Adored by children, it’s a useful anti-stress even for adults. Even if slime is a product invented in the seventies, it is recently that the “slime mania”Thanks to the slime challenge, which developed on the web and became viral, during which influencers and youtubers took back the colored substance in their hands.
Slime can be found on the market, in newsstands and in stores dedicated to children, but lately it has also depopulated the home preparation of the “green slime” (originally it was in fact this color, then over the years it has taken on other shades, satisfying the tastes of children). Making slime at home: what is it for?
Before starting it is good to ask yourself this question: to make the slime yourself what is needed? The ingredients more or less common to all recipes are:
- Vinyl glue, white or transparent, non-toxic
- Activators which make the glue elastic: detergent for the laundry, bicarbonate and liquid for contact lenses or starch of corn
- Extra elements: dyes food, baby oil to give shine, soap to perfume it, foam shaving if you want a “fluffy” slime, glitter and glitter (the choice is yours)
Many internet tutorials includeuse of borax as a basic substance to create the slime but we we do not recommend in that element toxic. Indeed, it can be replaced with others non-toxic products. Let’s see how to make slime at home in seven different ways, all non-toxic.
1. Making slime at home
This recipe involves the use of vinyl glue is talcum powder (in place of borax). What you need is:
- 150 ml of glue vinyl (white or transparent depending on the final effect you want for your slime)
- 70 g of talcum powder and dye
In a bowl, jumbled up there glue vinyl and a teaspoon of dye food. Always stirring add the talcum powder little by little and as soon as the dough has taken on a thick consistency, work it with your hands. The base of your slime is ready: at this point, let your imagination run free and add the extra ingredients that you prefer, indeed those that your child prefers.

2. Making slime at home: with starch and water
This recipe involves the use of solos two ingredients, starch (or cornstarch) and hot water, without vinyl glue. Here are the doses:
- 140 g of cornstarch or cornstarch
- 250 ml of hot water
Proceed as follows: jumbled up L’starch with L’water, work the substance first with a spoon then with your hands and, having reached the perfect consistency, return the slime to the freezer for 10 minutes. If you want to give it a particular color, add the dye to the water before adding the starch.
Also, thanks to the starch you can create the version slime that moves. Like? Replace to water 500 ml of seed oil and reduce the starch doses (only 90 g) and let the mixture rest in the fridge for half an hour. Kids will love this version because as soon as you move the substance away or near an electrostatic object it will come to life.
3. Make the slime yourself: with toothpaste
This is one super fast recipe which is achieved with the use of soap or, better, shampoo is toothpaste. To get the slime to take on the right consistency, use a thicker shampoo and gel toothpaste. In equal doses, mix them in a bowl with a spoon until a fairly homogeneous substance is obtained. Put it away in the freezer for 10 minutes checking from time to time to make sure it does not harden. Et voila, the slime is ready.
4. Making your own slime: scented slime
As anticipated, if you want yours slime both elastic but also scented just use some soap. Here’s what you need:
- 100 g of flakes of soap
- 500 ml liter of hot water
- 50 g of starch
- Dye food
The procedure is simple (like all the others): mix boiling water is flakes of soap until these are dissolved after which add the dye. Let it sit the mixture for an hour then work it with a whisk. In case the compound you look too liquid, add L’starch of corn.
5. Make the slime yourself: with baking soda
One of the activators of the slime is the liquid solution for contact lenses. This recipe involves its use:
- 100 g of glue vinyl
- 20 ml of liquid for lenses
- 50 ml of water
- 1 Teaspoon of bicarbonate
- Glitter and food coloring
First of all, united the ingredients in this order: glue, solution lenses, dye. Mix and united the bicarbonate until the elastic consistency is obtained. Finally, away of glitter!
6. Making your own slime: super soft slime

- Foam from beard
- Shampoo dense
- Glitter is dye
