A modern and minimalist apartment decorated in white

The New Affiliates team has just completed the design of this 46 m2 pied-à-terre located near Gramercy Park in New York City. The renovation focused on efficient space planning and a flexible layout that allows living and working within the confines of this mini studio.

The architects decided to divide the apartment into two dual-use areas: a small hole next to the entrance works as an office, as well as an extension of the adjacent kitchen; the bedroom also serves as a living room and / or dining room; and right in the middle, a bathroom separates the different environments.

The white wall connecting the two living areas serves multiple functions– It houses storage space such as a pantry and walk-in closet, and features a fold-down bed as natural light bounces off the apartment’s only window.

Thanks to a studied design, the spaces seem larger than they are. The bathroom, for example, was lined with small square tiles in the form of a grid, and the floor was chosen in white oak with thin planks.

In addition, the color palette in neutral tones, including pale green, creates an open and airy atmosphere with a clear minimalist style.

There are also fun details, such as the bookshelf in the shape of little ears in the office, or the pieces of art that subtly run through the apartment.
