A true cabin by the lake

a cabin by the lake

Juli Daoust Baker

In California, next to Lake Huron, you can find that caprice hut. Its owners, Mjölk, John and Juli Baker, completely renovated its interior and did a good job of interior design with wood as the protagonist. The decoration is functional and timeless with a lot of Scandinavian influence and nods to the Japanese style (especially when it comes to the relationship with nature).

The white on the walls, floor and ceiling gives a feeling of light and openness. The original stone fireplace was retained in the project and has become the centerpiece of the living room, surrounded by pieces discovered at flea markets and design classics such as the AJ Wall Sconces, by Arne Jacobsen for Louis Poulsen; the birch shelves, by Alvar Aalto for Artek; and a lounge chair vintage by Pernilla by Bruno Mathsson.

The kitchen, designed by John Baker and built by Studio Junction, includes custom Carolina pine cabinets and shelving, a stone sink with a double drying rack, and brass accents.

Over the dining room, white pendant lamps. And around the table, blue Danish chairs by Jorgen Baekmark. The table and bench are by Studioilse for De La Espada. The backrest (maxi) of the bench acts as a dividing element between the kitchen and the living room. In the master bedroom also Studioilse signs the headboard.
