With the arrival of the pandemic, many people began to consider the possibility of moving to a house in the country to have more freedom, but lovers of the sea could find their ideal home in houseboats. We talk about boats transformed into houses really cozy, like the one you are about to meet. The project, carried out by creative director Lyndsay Caleo Karol and her husband Fitzhugh Karol – both founders of The Brooklyn Home Company – was named after Lucy in honor of his beloved dog. It is a tug Lord Nelson Victory from the 80s that They lovingly renovated it into a family houseboat.
Through their work at The Brooklyn Home Company, the couple were used to remodeling homes on land, but they had never faced an offshore project. However, fate always gives us the most interesting challenges, and in 2015 the interior designers found Lucy in Stonington, Maine.

The renovation process was quite cumbersome: they removed the old wiring, filled 3 garbage bags of more than 113 liters, and restored areas of the boat that were full of mold. A horror!
After changing the electrical installation (and adding toilets), the couple moved on to the fun part: repainting the traditional teak and holly floors and painting the interiors in the same tone. Schoolhouse White by Farrow & Ball. They also chose new fixtures and lighting from Workstead.
The interior was reinvented to include a kitchen and living room with storage space (including a brass bar as a bar cabinet). They also built a third bedroom behind the captain’s seat.
Outside, a teak deck houses the outdoor entertaining area, where we find a dining room, a seating area, and a shower.
Every winter, the couple and their children go to the Bahamas and Florida. In the summer, they travel from Charleston to Long Island, or down the coast of Maine, where it all began … 😍
